The Garnut Popular Post Nutter 15,155 Posted May 21, 2021 The Garnut Popular Post Share Posted May 21, 2021 Hello Garnet Gaming members, After being a community for a very extensive period of time, Proggy has brought it to my attention that our rules regarding racism are not at all where they should be, and while you may argue that some servers do not have rules against such things, and "FREEDOM OF SPEECH" I am in complete agreement with @proggy. We are going to be modifying our server rules across the board (DarkRP, MilitaryRP, Teamspeak, etc) to be more reflective of the new etiquette rules, effective starting June 1st. While our previous rules are generally as follows: On 5/21/2018 at 10:32 AM, Garnet said: Do not disrespect or use racism to other members of the community when out-of-character (OOC). Example: Text Screens, OOC Chat, Advert, Admin Sits, RP Name. Our new rules will be modified to reflect both OOC and IC (In-Character) chats, as well as homophobia, hate speech, sexism, and general building rules (some of you LOVE building Nazi structures throughout the server) On 5/21/2018 at 10:32 AM, Garnet said: Do not use hate speech, disrespect, or use racism to other members of the community. Example: Homophobic/racist Text Screens, Voice/Local/OOC Chat remarks, Adverts, offensive structures (swastikas), foul RP Names. As with all things there will be exception, IE: a member with an urban upbringing who's speech includes some foul language may be excused with a verbal warning, but generally, expect this procedure. First offense: Verbal Warning/Optional warning (depending on severity) Second offense: Warning & Chat mute Third offense: Warning & Elongated chat mute & jail time Fourth offense: Server ban for a 3 day period Fifth offense: 1 month ban for repeated hatespeech/racism/homophobia Sixth Offense: Community-wide ban. 12 1 1 2 3 1 20 Quote Link to comment

I don’t know if I’m allowed to respond but seeing that you left this unlocked I’m assuming you’re allowing some community feedback. I’m a little confused with the section above. What does this mean exactly? Are “urban” individuals not to be punished the same as other people? Is there more leniency for them? Or should there just be more consideration for those individuals. Basically some people might have a harder time adjusting to these new guidelines even though they mean well, since they may have been raised in an environment where language like that isnt always disrespectful but rather just part of their upbringing. You can tell when someone is using soft-a from being close to african-american culture as opposed to someone using racism as a punchline or a hateful impulse. The former being something we would be willing to be patient with, the ladder being unacceptable. We'll probably have a staff meeting regarding this and edit the training documents soon. 9 Quote Link to comment

That exact phrase can be used offensively, or in a neutral (even friendly) way. It all depends on context. The -er version though, is outright a racist remark no matter what setting. 4 Quote Link to comment
StarWarsRP Management Team Theos 423 Posted May 22, 2021 StarWarsRP Management Team Share Posted May 22, 2021 I feel like I should point out this is a more lenient system than what MilitaryRP was already using. The de facto system on Mil before was a verbal warning on the first time, then a perm ban if continued, with exceptions either way. Quote Link to comment
