What happened? (include any proof):

I was banned for 10 years for advertising my Venmo. I understand that, at a surface level, I did neglect the no advertising rule, though I wasn’t aware it was a rule. Had this been brought to my attention, I would’ve never broken it, and if staff had told me and asked me to remove it, I would have.

 

I tried to explain to staff that I didn’t know this was against the rules, but my main point of concern was that I was parodying another message that was asking someone to Zelle them for DoorDash money. I obviously knew no one was actually going to Venmo me. It was meant as a joke because I found the DoorDash message funny.
 

I’ve given money to the server and have been on and off for what must be over five years without any prior issues with staff. That’s why a 10-year ban over something meant to be humorous feels really excessive, especially considering I could’ve just been told to take it down, and my explanation should’ve sufficed.

 

From my-own perspective I could’ve put anything else with the intention of being humorous in the textscreen and it wouldn’t have been any different. I wasn’t trying to advertise my Venmo and was rather just trying to be funny in a non-offensive manner.

 

I believe staff failed to understand my perspective and could’ve handled the situation better by talking with me about why I had the Venmo reference on the server. I know it sounds dumb when explained like this, but most jokes do. Other people have received lesser punishments for far more serious actions.

 

Please try to see where I’m coming from when I say that, yes, I shared my Venmo handle, but my intent wasn’t to actually advertise. If I had known it was against the rules, I would’ve simply deleted the message and moved on, completely negating a 10-year ban.

 

I believe a punishment of 10 years is extreme and unwarranted, and I hope this explanation gives enough context to show my point of view. I truly enjoy the GarnetGaming server and would be disappointed to lose access like this. Thank you.

I have discussed with Chawhead the outcome of this entire situation. The first thing I'd like to mention is you've mentioned you have been in our community for more or less 5 years now. 5 years is plenty of time to get yourself accustomed to the rules and guidelines of our server so there is no excuse to mention it as something you "didn't know" neither is it something to excuse as "someone else was doing it so I assume I could too". These rules must be followed regardless if it's a "joke" in context. Along with your other antics that afternoon I deemed the ban ideal considering you caused a ruckus of other multiple rule breakings according to Mo1stAussie. In conclusion, Chawhead has discussed your outcome and will have it posted here. Whatever he decides on, let it be known you were informed of the rules you broke and you knew you'd get away with it.

After reviewing your appeal & having a discussion with schyzo in-game (and with another staff member), I have come

to the conclusion to give you a second chance. You will be able to re-join the server, but please do not mistake my kindness

for weakness. You have been with the server for 5 years or less and should be fully aware of the community guidelines and rules by now.

(Both links are posted below.) Also, the appeal forums are not a place for apologies; you can only appeal if you have been wrongfully banned or warned. 

Just because you see someone else doing it does not mean it's right; you should always check before doing it. One last word of advice, it's always good to record 

or take screenshots, it makes everything a lot better when appealing.
