+1, but spilq is right. However, I believe this eco reset will make the power difference between VIPs and users even larger, considering most perma players never buy gun shipments. I can't even remember the last time I bought gun shipments, but users will have to. The economy balance will be further skewed towards VIPs.

Honestly if it were up to me, perma guns wouldn't be a thing. In a perfect world shipments wouldn't be able to be banked (they would be dropped upon death as well), causing them to be a target for raid theft, along with printers. This would make raiding/defending more intense, as these would turn into investments that players would ultimately want to keep at all costs.

Unfortunately, the Garnet DRP community is for some reason infatuated with the pay to win model that has ruled over the server as long as I can remember. Hopefully CityRP doesn't fall to the same fate (if/when it becomes populated).

  2. (This is essentially a copy-paste of a reply I posted in Garnet's recent announcement of the Economy Reset, posting here for higher likelyhood of community feedback/discussion in a more fitting section of the forums.)

A Standard Money Printer printed $10/30sec. It cost $100 and could not be repaired or upkeeped. It would last between 45 minutes-hour, at which point the display would give an error saying "BOARD FAILURE - ERROR 8903" basically meaning the board cannot be salvaged no matter what you do. Plain and simple, easy $1,100(max). Max # allowed per player was 4 at a time, for maximum profitability.

An Advanced Money Printer printed in between $20-$100/30 sec. It cost $2,000, and could be repaired with a new print spool costing $100, which would need to be administered every 15 minutes, 5 times, at which point the printer would break outright. Maximum profit $13,000 over a span of an hour and 15 minutes. (If you could keep them that long, as they will be a target for theft in raids) Maximum # allowed per player was 2, for balance and for the incentive to steal them in raids.

You could stop here, but there was another aspect to printers that made for a good activity for  a newly added job.

The Technician (without addition, players could just buy Repair Kits in the Entity menu)
    Salary: $100/hour
Role: Legally sells printer Repair Kits for $100 each from a store. ILLEGALY goes to bases and repairs printers on demand for a higher price. (This is because normally law enforcement wouldn't try to incarcerate an innocent Computer Technician for selling a Counterfeiter parts for a standard printer. That would be absurd. But if Law Enforcement ever caught someone in the same position KNOWINGLY repairing illegal machines, the Technician would be arrested on sight.)

You could add more printers with buffed numbers, but VIP shouldn't = cash in my opinion.

Seems like a really fun system for a side project. Unfortunately I don't see this doing too well on Garnet and people striving to have millions of dollars lmao.

Quick question, Lets say recently someone bought money on the donation store what happens to them?

I suggest anyone who bought money a month ( Or however much time u think is just) can re-gain that money after the wipe by making a donation support.

Or you can enjoy the 14 day grace period I've given you to spend that money. You're going on about a problem that doesn't exist, because 'money packages' are our lowest sellers, they're pretty pointless and have not been purchased recently. Other than that, why buy money if you're just going to have it sitting in your inventory for over 30 days?

  5. At the peak of Impacted Servers DarkRP (dead since 2014), Bloodwave had a system for money printers that I think tops everything I've seen.

    The mechanics worked like this:
A Standard Money Printer printed $10/30sec. It cost $100 and could not be repaired or upkeeped. It would last between 45 minutes-hour, at which point the display would give an error saying "BOARD FAILURE - ERROR 8903" basically meaning the board cannot be salvaged no matter what you do. -1 Dabi brings a valid point.

I was coding something like this a few days ago, if people really don't want to participate in the event then they will ignore the adverts.

Isn't Advert short for Advertising. AKA Announcing. If players don't wanna go to events it doesn't matter how many messages you send. If i'm using my printers and such and getting XP and money then why would I go to a random karaoke event. In your advert put some kind reward or something for winners. Make it more appealing. You can also make an advert look more professional you don't need a plugin for it.

/advert Ask for TP to Talent Show Event.

    OR

/advert Annual Garnet Gaming Talent Show | Best 3 will get Cash Prizes | Message for TP

You're missing the point of the suggestion. The reasoning I believe this should be added is, not everyone looks at advert. No matter how  many times you put your message, it will get drowned out by nearby text, adverts, and OOC. Adding this will give a more obvious notification to players that an event is happening, and not get lost in a sea of text along with PoopSlayer67's gunshop.

What's unfortunate is without this caching which may indirectly result in our lower server ping, this level of ddos mitigation can't be achieved, so in a way, facepunch is saying "you either get DDoS'd or you get blacklisted" which is just plain stupid.

Before the days of Anycast and other big DDoS protection programs/services, a server was pretty much at the will of whatever DDoS happy player was preying on them at the time. Impacted Servers (dead) lost over a month of uptime within a 6 month span due to DDoSing in 2014.

  9. https://web.archive.org/web/20190407114320/https://forum.facepunch.com/gmodgd/bsryo/Anycast-DDoS-Protection-How-many-popular-servers-are-manipulating-pings/1/

    https://gflclan.com/work/projects/misc/contact-facepunch-and-valve-regarding-anycast-in-garrys-mod-r24/

Posts like these brought the Anycast DNS DDoS protection to the surface in terms of how the servers using it were getting boosted Ping Ratings and causes smaller servers, even though their pings would be lower, on the lower part of the lists. This was a problem to some people (lets be honest, small/medium time server owners), because it can cause the average player to just connect based off the high number of players and low* ping.

    * = Example: a German player sees Garnet MRP on the server browser as good ping, and can even ping from outside as low as 80ms. As soon as said player is connected, they will spike to 150-200 due to the ping being connected directly instead of "spoofed" through DNS.

(This is all in laymens terms so people reading this don't just scratch their heads)

Facepunch has released little to no news on this issue.
r/gmod is nothing but user generated content, and no Facepunch reps have posted to it in over a month.

What Garnet put above is the only issue we really face at this moment. With the amount of DDoS and general attacks the servers get due to our notoriety and popularity within the GMod community, the servers would be fried in minutes. Until either Facepunch or the host find an alternative to Anycast that is good enough for the servers to stay up, expect slowed down playercounts.

The best thing we can do is let everyone know the server is still up and well, it just needs to be joined through the Legacy browser or through console.

    IPs:

    Connect 208.103.169.33:27015

    in console for DarkRP

    Connect 208.103.169.33:27017

    in console for MilitaryRP

Good news: Rust servers still poppin, the less looked after 2x even has 30 players! 5x of course sitting pretty at 100+ almost at all times.

  10. The one problem I've noticed, (I was last on Midnight 12/30 EST), is rifle bodies are not spawning.

During our time roaming we only heard AK fire a handful of times, and for a 5x, that's strange. We did some barrel farming and we confirmed that little to no Rifle bodies were spawning. Not sure if you made a change to this but I just wanted to bring it up. Thank you for your patience and hard work on this issue.

  11. I say as long as several US members have reviewed ALL evidence against you and come to the same conclusion that the RU side did, this matter should be done with. I've only had few run ins with you and sometimes I came on top, but you can call it luck or you toggled off. After reviewing the evidence the clips keep stacking higher and higher, the one that interested me most was this one. You gave the following insight:

    9 hours ago, Bruh said:

In this clip, Valor had initially cleared warehouse and was attempting to take back the point from the United States. Valor was running in the middle of warehouse quite literally in the open. At 0:07, you can see me taking cover behind the container, crouching down to improve accuracy, and firing at Valor.

This is all well and good, but in the clip, we see your playermodel come out at full speed, lock to Valor, and the spray started. That's pretty normal, sometimes your aim is really fast, which is totally possible without 3rd party assistance. The Marine M4 is a balanced weapon. It can spray targets at medium range with ease, but there was something about this one that just didn't seem right. If we were to see a transparent view of that box, I can only assume you didn't stop long before peaking to center your aim and peek freely with 3rd person, you just had too much momentum. With this, and the fact that your aim was THAT fast when you had to make the choice of two different targets, hitting only one with every shot, this clip is fishy as hell.

That's my take on it. If you really weren't hacking, I'm sorry you fell to the witch hunt. I've been there and done that. But with the current evidence I am going to -1.

  12. In-game name: [Garnet] iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiits' dan
    Age: 20
    SteamID (https://steamid.io/): STEAM_1:1:8821501
    Timezone: EST
How long have you been a part of the community?: 2+ years
Do you have access to TeamSpeak and a microphone?: [YES/NO] Yes
Do you have the ability to screen-record while playing on Rust?:[YES/NO] Yes
Referral(s): [What administrator recommended you to apply?] Literally Garnet
Past experiences as staff: [Optional] Garnet GMOD MRP H. Mod (staff for 6 months), Impacted Servers(dead) GMOD DRP Admin
Why should we choose you over other applicants?:

I am currently one of the most active players on the server and can be trusted to not use staff powers for personal gain based from staffing in the past, and my desire to make the server a fair and balanced place for players to have fun and feel safe from cheaters or any other rule breaking of the sort. I have personally helped the server with suggestions and testing/researching with Garnet to help improve the server mechanically. With years of experience playing Rust and other Source games, I have been able to detect cheaters with efficiency and use discretion when necessary. I know techniques to not only rid the server of cheaters, but can help the playerbase reclaim their wrongfully taken loot once the cheater is gone. I mention cheaters so much in this application as there really are only a few rules, and the one most broken is Cheating. I actively PVP and roam so I will always be on watch for groups that are abusing any of the few rules in place, including the 5 man rule, walling off loot, and most importantly, cheating/exploiting.

Have you made any previous applications, If so when?: Not for Rust but I recently made a staff app for MRP which was denied due to my being previously perma-banned while maining the server.
How much time do you have to contribute to the role?: 2+ hours a day
If you have any, what hobbies or activities are you involved in outside of Rust?: I am active duty Vega on MRP and work 40 hours a week in IT. I have plenty of time after work and around my time on MRP to do staff duties and be a productive member of the server/staff team.

When I joined, US recruiting was actually disabled, and new players were forced to join Afghan or not play at all.

Same! I thought it was really strange. Eventually the Tali side got so stacked with skill and numbers, the management HAD to make Recruits spawn on both sides or no one would play US.

    Strange days

  14. +1 overall.

This adjustment will not only balance out the competitive play, it will also improve the strategic readiness of the base side of US by unifying the leadership for all, instead of just hoping that there is BOTH a Marine and Army leader/officer to lead the numbers to any kind of victory. Rank restructuring might also take place to get best results.

I agree US has been outnumbered a lot recently, but simply putting all recruits on US won't really balance, it will just tip the scale at times. What really should happen is connecting players spawn as Citizen in Village. There can be text signs explaining what new players need to do, and that would be it. This is how it was done in 2017/2018(i think) and I'm not sure why it changed. Both sides got reasonably balanced while letting players know they can join other sides.

  15. After rereading your app, I realize how absolutely little effort you put into it. You removed fields, your paragraphs are short, and the story you tell looks like you're just trying to fill up words so you have at least a little content. And finally, @JasminAKAAlt he has you as a referral, do you remember him at all?

I have 6 years of experience on gmod, and 4-3 years of experience on Garnet

Please post your /playtime from DarkRP so we can know for sure you actually have been in the community for a long time.

I already find it hard to believe, as you have no prominent Garnet members in your Steam Friends. Your game stats are also Private so your hours on GMod itself can't be confirmed.

    -1 for now, sketchy

Yes. there are two seals just sitting in a protected area in RU DB and they haven't called raid or anything and can't be killed. Is there anyway that this can be changed so Ru can shoot US in RU protected zones and vice versa for US?

Either this or remove the mechanic until it's been refined. Maybe make it so if you're in the zone, you also don't do damage.
