My problem is your stating fishing is dead while the fact is that nothing truly changed within fishing. This change just made fishing an actual job, and not another form of farming printers as it was used. If this remarks a class as dead, then you didn't use it for the class you just used it as another quicker printer, nothing is stopping you from doing the exact same farming strategy as before (printers and fishing) while  running around, while yes, of course the amount you can make doing it per hour has dropped, this by no means makes the class"dead", with your last statement "having an option like fishing kept players engaged in the game while earning money quickly." makes no sense to me also because, fishing was never removed? You can still make money quickly from it. You cannot just sit down in one spot for hours on end like you used too.

You mean intended as a way to earn money and xp? Along side basing with printers to further increase income. A majority of the player base does not have the luxury to run 32 separate accounts to earn money quickly, so having an option like fishing kept players engaged in the game while earning money quickly.

It's not dead by any means, the only thing that changed is now you cant sit in a base along side printers for hours and do it. If that remarks the class as dead, you never really used the class as it was intended.

You have plenty of alternative bases you can use where there are fishing spots directly outside of them? (Beach has 4, and sewers have 6 IIRC). I wouldn't mind adding more spots, but bare in mind, these spots will not be accessible from the inside of bases
