Told my friends they should try to learn lua, cuz GMod communities always be needing devs, and since they're not doing it, I'm following in Fiers footsteps and learning on my own. Any tips?

Serious tip: don't do Lua. It's a clusterfuck of a language, and GLua makes it even worse.
It all depends on the type of learner you are. I myself work best through reverse-engineering other work so that I can get an understanding of how one might use something. Some people do good with books (there are quite a few Lua books out there, none specific to Gmod though) and others do good with videos.
The videos on these channels are rather dated but they should still help in some way, covering a wide range of topics:
