[MRP] Previous Event Formats

Recommended Posts

DISCLAIMER : In no way am I trying to bash on the events i've been in these past few weeks, i'm just providing event structures that I proposed before the GM system. Only providing these because I think it'd be interesting if these were modified and tweaked to be used for current GMs! ( Feedback back then was mostly positive )

Link 1:

It was proposed back then, that "events" going under the name "operations" had a more realistic sounding name when discussing it in-game. Noticeable things about this Operations Format:

1. ) The "GM", which in this case was myself, just went under their normal/modified MOS and briefed the Mission. This is pretty common, nothing too crazy. Everything was laid out, a plan was formed, and input was given.

2. ) The participants each had a role, it was random who showed up, so this part was mostly came up with on the spot. This promotes free-flow RP and gives the people participating involvement with the Operation. It makes it feel more important for them to succeed because THEY put their ideas in the Operation. This being said, the Operations are still structured enough to where they can't mess anything up with their planning.

3. ) There are multiple stages in the Operation. They were split off into two "Missions", the first one being Hospital File gathering, and the second being Jailhouse Files. The first one was mainly used to introduce the Operation. Introducing things like Intel Gathering so there is added RP, the "Raid" in order for the players to use their weapons, & lastly, SOC Teamwork Training ( Promotes communication/Teamwork between SOCs ). The second one having Two Stages, Stage 1 being gathering two Event Characters which were on special classes ( The Added RP ), and Stage 2 essentially being Stage 1 ( The Player Engagement ). This is split like this so it keeps all parties happy, the players who like heavy RP/the players who prefer more combat.

4. ) It had meaning and depth. The participants were told that if they succeed/fail, further repercussions in a future Server-Wide event would unfold. As shown in Link 3.

Link 2:

This was very similar to Link 1 in the sense that the format was structured to allow RP AND Combat.

1. ) The first noticeable thing about this Operation was that it was structured to where the entry onto the Oil Rig would begin with the death of 3 SSO. After that, it was a 5 minute defense from RU SOC. It was made so that it was fair for both sides, if RU stops the attack, they prevent information from being stolen. If US successfully extract with at least 1 person alive, they gain information for the Server-Wide event ( Link 3 ).

2. ) One side had infinite lives, one side had limited lives. It was set up like this because of the lower player pop ( 50s/60s ). It allows US to not be just sitting there with no combat, AND for RU to have a somewhat "endless" attack.

3. ) Even though RU "lost" the event, they still had fun. It was the incentive that if they win, they ACTUALLY get something, where as if they lose, they don't. Incentives provide people to be engaged, and engagement is fun regardless of if you lose.

Link 3:

1. ) This was Server-Wide, meaning all the OBJs were considered "KOS to Both Sides". If the OBJ was entered, US could shoot RU, and RU could shoot US. This was how the rules were formatted, so we used what we had to our advantage. It essentially created a "War" outside of War. If that makes ANY sense.

2. ) The previous Operations HAD an effect. The intel gathering was actually information pertaining to the location of Igor ( the respective target for both sides ). Because the US Operations were more successful than the RU Operations, at the 10 minute mark, the US SOC were given a hint to Igors location. This provided depth to the Operations and gave them more of a narrative feel.

3. ) The combat was 100% there. The players who prefered combat were able to fight on the OBJs while the players who prefered RP were searching for the target. Once the target gets captured, the players who want to RP interrogate while the players who prefer combat defend the base. This allows both sides of the "RP/Combat" spectrum to be happy.

4. ) Stuff was happening constantly for both sides regardless of who won/lost. Because US captured Igor, they were prompted to interrogate for info pertaining the second Operation. While on the other side, RU was planning 3 different raids that would clear Outpost and the US Base. The Raid timer was cut to 5 minutes instead of 15, in order to allow 3 quick attempts at defusing the interrogation.

5. ) ALL players were allowed to participate in this final event, not just SOC. It took a little bit of work, but 11B were led by SOC and tasked with defending the base during the interrogation. 2GA was tasked with being the primary distraction used to help clear out the base for the Raids. Although they had small parts, they still had fun.

The only reason I posted this in the Event Suggestion thread was because I didn't know where else to post it. I just wanted to provide current GM's with formats that were successful at the early introduction to events. Players liked these a lot, I feel like bringing them back up kind of brings up a discussion of if events like these are STILL liked. I also just wanted to provide the GM Team with some Operation Formats!

I'll be honest, these do not require a GM the fact you did them as a regular officer proves this. Operations can be entirely set up by the player all you need is a small group of people and a goal. IMO events and op's are to seperate things, operations are small scale missions, trips etc to complete a task while events (try to be and should be) a lot more intensive with the use of event locations, Game Masters running it with the players, MOS's, Jobs, props, often a very loose script, /event etc. I believe that operations should be handled by officers in game (whether they are a GM or not) while the planned complex events are run by the GM team.

Basically from what I gathered this should be pushed towards officers rather than the GM team as we are simply not needed for this to work, you have prior experience as do many others, anyone with experience is highly encouraged to do operations independant of the GM's or staff also allowing us more time to focus on planning coherant smooth events instead of the rushed shitty ones I was doing a week or two ago. As it currently stands, I do these operations (not super frequently mind you) involving who ever is on at the time, I am able to do these without being AFSOC and without being a Game Master. If needed I would be happy to do 5 or so demonstration operations with the current RU & US officers so they can experience them and hopefully try to replicate the formula.
