Just out of interest, I read StraightWhiteChristianMale's response and then saw you changed the title and I'm confused... was this a different suggestion previously about maps or something? Anyway....

I remember many years ago I did exactly this but just for my own benefit as driving in GMod is notoriously bad, so I tweaked a lot of the values until I was happy with the handling. With that said, I remember it taking me a really long time and through it by trial and error, I eventually got there, so as long as Garnet's happy to spend that amount of time tweaking it then it's certainly possible for sure and I could get behind the idea. Maybe make low-end cars a little slower too as they are all super fast lol.

I love the idea of the mechanic where eating it might give you health, but may also just give you food poisoning haha! It could work as a poor-mans version of perks given that it’s a gamble on if it would actually help, while also creating new job roles for players to fill which would be awesome 🙂

I would say have it be a 50/50 chance of gaining 50% health or giving you ‘food poisoning’ where you loose health in a similar way to the covid spreader. Have it’s price-point very low, to allow players to add a reasonable mark-up to profit from it while making it cheap enough for new players to want to buy and risk the gamble.

Adric has always been the essence of community spirit. The first time I met him, he was playing his Ukulele on the DarkRP server and performing for the enjoyment of all, bringing together old and new players alike for a boogie in the streets. He's of great character and I've never known him to get into any kind of trouble, instead he does his best to help other players and make the server a place that people would want to spend their time with a focus on events and otherwise engaging with people in a bright and meaningful way. He's the kind of staff member that will play a big role in maintaining the CityRP population as time goes on through his creative ideas and determination to ensure the server is free from those who wish to ruin other peoples fun. Having past experience staffing on DarkRP, he's a fantastic candidate to join the team and I really hope you make it 🙂 I wish you the best of luck!

WreckEM is one of the most respectful and trustworthy players that I know since I've joined Garnet, with a maturity that he's built since the ice age (he's a bit older than me in fact!). He's the kind of person who will always listen to others, keeping their words private and forming his own judgement without any kind of bias. He's always having a great laugh with other people on the server and has a naturally positive aura about him, but he's able to quickly adapt to a serious and sensitive approach, like for example if he were to take a report, which is a great quality to have. He's online during some of the peak times and at night when there's less staff members online, and as an ex-staff member, he's a great candidate to help make the CityRP server successful by ensuring that good players are well looked after. I think he'd do a brilliant job if he gets onto the team, so I wish you the best of luck! 🙂

Referral(s): [What administrator recommended you to apply?] None
Past experiences as staff: [Optional]  I'm currently a T.Admin on our DarkRP server
Why should we choose you over other applicants? [minimum 2 paragraphs]

I'd like to briefly introduce myself to those who I haven't had the opportunity to meet yet (there's a lot of new faces on this server which is awesome to see!). My name's Chris and I'm a 28 year old guy from the South-Coast of England. I've been playing DarkRP since it was released a long time ago, and I've seen it evolve over the years to what we all know and love today, including variants such as CityRP! I was drawn to the vanilla style of the Garnet DarkRP server initially as it's the closest thing to the servers that I used to play on when I was a teenager, and I have been playing on the Garnet server for nearly 2 years with most of my activity in the last year or so. Having spent time in the CityRP server since it's beta release, I've really enjoyed some of the additional content that it includes and I'm excited to see the server grow and flourish for the foreseeable future, and I'd love to be a part of helping it succeed. If I'm accepted into the staff team, I'd be duel-staffing across both the DarkRP and CityRP servers and I plan to actively staff on both with no intention of giving up my previous rank on DarkRP, just in case you might be wondering. I feel that given my age and personality, I'm sensible and mature which I believe is a key quality of a staff member. I'd also like to point out that living in a different time zone (the UK) allows me to be active at times when a lot of other staff aren't available, which can help maintain the number of active staff online. I work full time as an electrician, so I'll be available in the evenings during the week and all weekend.

I've always strived to be of good character, with no warns or bans on my record on any server, and the only times that I can ever remember being reported was during my initial hours on Garnet server and having the wrong number of fading doors on my base, silly beginner mistakes which were promptly corrected. I personally believe that all staff members should be absolute role-models to other players and set an example for all to see. I've always been respectful and approachable, and try my best to share that mindset with others so that we can have a fantastic community that people enjoy being on.

With that in mind, I get on really well with the Garnet community and talk everyday with many good friends I have met here, having had the chance to get to know a lot of the members during my time playing on the servers. I was always so surprised and delighted to have been welcomed with open-arms to the community when I first joined, and now I try my best to return that favour to new members that I come to meet by helping them build their bases and giving out with some basic weapons and a bit of extra starting cash, something I will continue to do and which I encourage others to do as well if they're able to. I'm well trusted in the community as I have always honoured my word, whether that be buying bulk printers in-game, trading high-value collectable items, lending large amounts of in-game money, or doing giveaways (which I would like to do again soon!). I believe it's important to get on well with the community and be trusted by the player base as a staff member as these are great qualities to have.

As I've mentioned, I'm currently a T.Admin on the DarkRP server having worked my way through the ranks to where I am now. In that time, I have trained 5 new staff members and never had a single appeal for any punishment I've given, with a staff of the month award given for April. I was also privileged to have been given the HR and GM ranks early, with my first training conducted while I was a moderator. I always strive to go the extra mile in every task I handle, whether that be to properly explain a punishment during a sit, going over additional points during a staff training, or helping out with an event; I'm continually learning and evolving to try and become the best staff member I can be. Of course I have a lot of experience which I feel is relevant to CityRP, and I'm aware that the subtle differences between CityRP and DarkRP are my focus points that I'll need to keep in mind, for my own continued development. I take a lot of pride in ensuring all my sits are recorded and I keep 2 months of well-organised records to make sure I can be efficient in responding to any future appeals. I don't get affected by bias, which is something I have seen other staff members occasionally struggle with, I've always remained firm but fair, and I believe that anyone is capable of changing given enough time and the right environment to do so, but with justifiable punishments given to encourage such change. I won't tolerate toxicity, but I'll always be there to help that same person improve.

Lastly I feel it's important to mention that I'm incredibly active within the community, with 882 hours in-game on DarkRP. I'm always posting far too much on the forums, in fact I'm 3rd behind Garnet and Proggy for the month at the moment according to the leader boards. That's not to mention my activity in Discord and TeamSpeak, both on Garnet servers and other sub-communities, I'll always be somewhere chatting with people I've met here. I always do my best to participate in community events such as the screen-art competition (which you can take a look by loading into DarkRP), the duel-arena competition (which I'm really hoping to win but waiting for an announcement) and even hosting my own VIP giveaway. I love this community and I take part in everything I can!

I think I'll cut it off here, but I'm excited to be a part of the new CityRP server and I look forward to hopefully joining the rest of the team 🙂

Have you ever been banned or punished on any server? If so, include details: Never had any warns or bans, only silly beginner mistakes when I first joined (like the number of fading doors allowed).
Have you made any previous applications, if so when? None for CityRP
How much time do you have to contribute to the role? I'd be sharing my time between DarkRP and CityRP (duel-staffing) so 3-4 hours a day, but alternating days between servers. And then all weekend.
If you have any, what hobbies or activities are you involved in outside of Garry's Mod? I enjoy tinkering with electronics, in fact the Wire Mod (on GMod) was what initially inspired me as a teenager and helped shape my career! I also until recently had a motorbike which I used to take out quite often for a ride. I've just started playing Magic The Gathering too after a friend invited me to join them one Friday, so I'll see how that turns out. I enjoy exploring a lot of things and I'm always open to new ideas to be honest.
Did you read the staff rules?: ChrisRid

  6. Hi there Baller,

I wouldn't normally respond for bans I have put through on behalf of other staff members but I'm doing so as not only have you DM'd me with a link to this, but also I was tagged by an ex-staff member in the offence-links section of our discord, so I'm just making sure this can get settled by the correct parties involved.

Just to avoid any further confusion, the staff member who requested this ban is @Tax_Collector and their name is added to the end of the 'reason' as you can see in the image below. I put this ban through on their behalf after they requested it through the staff chat in-game, as they aren't able to ban at their current rank. Just for future reference, you are able to check the details of any ban by searching Steam ID's at the following link, just in case you ever need to check in the future https://garnetgaming.net/darkrp/bans/

I have tagged Tax Collector here and in the GG Staff Discord, so they will respond to this appeal as soon as they are free. I hope this helps 🙂

I do like the idea, but unfortunately I just can't see anyone following the orders and/or the police chief might make people do silly things. I think it would be much better idea to get a good group of mates to all be police at once to achieve the same result, and I think it would be more fun that way. I personally think anything more serious in terms of roleplay, is better suited to PoliceRP than DarkRP.

While I do totally understand and I've seen players leave after reporting MRDM when they were blown up in this sort of raid, I think GunShark made a pretty good point on this.

Other than that, there are good reasons to allow firing off rockets straight away, for example in a legitimate raid a great tactic is to catch the baser off guard by knocking on the door, waiting a few seconds, and then hitting the front entrance with a rocket or two in order to take out the baser which will allow the raider to move through the entrance and crack the keypads. I get this is a more advanced raiding tactic, but I don't see anything wrong with it. Advanced basers can still protect themselves from such an attack anyway if they know how. I very rarely (if ever) raid myself, but I do actually appreciate a good team of raiders who come up with cool tactics like this and I wouldn't want to take it away from them.

So unfortunately I'm going with a -1 on this, but I do see your reasoning behind your suggestion for sure.

Because the credits are given for time spent in-game, I can't see the need for an additional cooldown timer to purchase payroll. Although I do understand that there might be people with lots of credits who would have to purchase payroll 10,000 times to use them up, so maybe introduce an option to buy multiples of payroll (e.g purchasing 10x payroll) to avoid spamming the chat if this was to happen 😃

People wouldn’t go out of their way to ruin someone’s staff app just for their personal enjoyment unless they are just flat out dicks.

Precisely. This is the biggest problem with applications, very often the response people give doesn’t address their suitability as a staff member but rather just serves as a chance for them to publicly rant about whatever personal disagreements they have had in the past, tarnishing their application as a result.

In fact some people are loved by the community for just being a good laugh, when in actual fact, they may not be the best candidate for the staff team. Similarly, some people aren’t liked much for various personal reasons, but are actually a good candidate and get overlooked.

There have been some fantastic staff members who have bought VIP mod and done a superb job helping the server while also offering a financial contribution in support which we should be thankful for. There have also been some terrible staff who applied through the forums and have been toxic ever since. What I’m saying is the quality of a moderator isn’t directly related to how they joined the team.

At the end of the day, if someone buys VIP Mod for $50 for the sake of 10 minutes of fun minging on the server, then they will simply have their rank removed and be blacklisted, while the server might get some nice upgrades with the money. I have personally had to ban someone who did exactly this until their rank could be removed.

I think it also offers those who have been victims of bullying a chance to get onto the staff team. Just one group of toxic friends can tarnish their application and deny them that opportunity as we’ve seen recently, and therefore feedback on an application doesn’t necessarily prove whether someone is a good fit for the team in these kind of scenarios.

I agree with Shank that there is some filler in your paragraphs, however if I were to ignore that, you’ve still given some good reasons for why you’d like to be on the team. I’m not worried with repetition of words or phrases because at the end of the day it’s not an English exam so as long as you’ve put some effort into spelling and grammar in an attempt to be reasonably presentable then I’m happy.

The points Shank made about being more active and meeting more people aren’t reasons for wanting to become staff, so I totally agree with him. You can achieve both of those things without being staff, and staffing doesn’t have any impact on your RP. But it’s still nice that you’d like to spend more time and meet more people for sure.

Checking your previous offences, you only have the one ban for MassNLR which you’ve mentioned with is common with new players, but nothing else of concern, so I believe you are of a good character.

Like I say, perhaps it’s best to spend some time reading over the rules and make an edit to your post, as I’ll reconsider my response if you do.

    Edit:

I changed my application to a +1 as you’ve taken on board the criticism mentioned and have now read the staff rules. You’ve got a clear desire to be a part of the team and help make the server a great place for players to be in the additional paragraph you’ve added, which is awesome to see. I wish you the best of luck!

Well sir it is just a staff application, and if he doesn’t think that todd is ready that is his opinion. Applications are opinion based he doesn’t need to prove anything.

I think it’s always important to be constructive when giving any criticism, otherwise how can you expect someone to understand what they need to do in order to improve? Sure it’s opinion based, and nobody’s opinion is necessarily wrong, but without any reasoning it doesn’t really mean anything, and just sounds like “I don’t like you” but for all we know that’s because Toddd supports a different football team.

So with that said, I totally agree with WreckEm. It would certainly help Toddd know what to work on and give some context, especially with the recent toxicity that’s been directed towards him without reason.

While the bitcoin miners might be pretty cool, the reason for my -1 is to keep the vanilla aspect of the server and reduce the download which is one of main reasons I liked Garnet DarkRP over other servers. Perhaps if CityRP came back, this could be something interesting to try out there and I'd be happy to give it a go for sure.

all people do is sit in their base and farm.

I can't see any issue if people just want to enjoy printer-farming with their friends? In fact the baser / raider aspect of DarkRP is one of the oldest concepts of the game mode. I'm personally not a fan of raiding myself, but I still see why others enjoy it. That's the beauty of DarkRP, there's something for everyone; that includes chilling with a few friends while farming printers and listening to music.

Economy is already broken due to people with alts

I made millions without the use of alts by simply buying printers off other people and manufacturing meth. In fact I would often check the TAB menu and I was usually in the top 5 richest online, all without the use of any alts. It's only in recent times I use alts when the server pop is low and I fancy farming, so in that sense I'm living proof you don't need alts to still become incredibly wealthy relative to others in-game. It's just whether you want to spend the time and effort getting to that point, just as I and many others have done?

  15. So this has been a difficult one for me, and I wasn’t sure whether to go for +1 or stay at neutral for now.

The thing is, I genuinely think you’d be a great staff member, just as you were previously last time you were staff. All my interactions with you have been great, and there are a good amount of people who’ve said the same. I think you are helpful and kind, incredibly active and very knowledgable, holding a previous executive position within the staff team.

The reason I’ve been indecisive about giving a straight-up +1 is because of you’re current reputation within the community. I feel it’s important to be respected by the community if you’re re-joining the staff team and that it’s something you need to properly address, which will unfortunately take time to rebuild. But I’m very confident you can make it happen.

I’d like to mention that Fetn is absolutely correct in what he’s said about you being a victim of toxicity yourself, and I have made it explicitly clear how unfair and contradictory those people are, and I will continue to call those people out for their actions. Anyone who is bullied will eventually lash out, and I feel a lot of the things you are accused of recently are a direct result of the angry mob’s enticement. You’re showing a strength of character in continuing to improve and stay within the community which I have a lot of respect for.

And I agree with Shin that I too am rooting for you and it’s always cool to chat and have a laugh. I’ve got absolute faith in you and I think you’d do an incredible job. But it may take time to rebuild certain relationships and that’s something only you’ll be able to do. I know you’ve made a superb effort to do this already, but it may just take a little bit of time as I’ve said before.

If I had to give a clear response then it would be a +1 knowing that you’ll be there in time anyway

Legally the TEC-9 would be a pistol

    7 hours ago, ShankNinja said:

    Tec-9 is a pistol

I decided to do a little bit of research about whether the TEC-9 is a pistol or a SMG and I'm going to change my response to neutral, but hear me out on a couple of things:

So just to mention, legal classification isn't really applicable here because that all depends on where you live as to how something is classified, and for example pepper spray is classified in the UK as a firearm, so you can see how the IRL legal classification argument is kind of invalid. To add to that, fun-clip's to convert Glocks to fire full-auto are mostly illegal without additional licences from what I can see so that doesn't really apply either. Similarly the classification a manufacturer gives something isn't really applicable because they want to sell to the widest market and will adapt their product to suit, for example pistols are banned even with a firearms licence in the UK so manufacturers just extended the barrel and throw on a stock to make it into a rifle, so that's also kind of irrelevant.

What I've come to learn is that it's commonly accepted that a SMG is an automatic pistol with a stock. That means that a TEC-9 with a stock is an SMG, and without a stock it's a pistol. This means that the classification would depend on the model and firing position of the weapon and (I haven't actually checked but) I assume the model is without the stock and therefore a pistol.

The reason I'm changing to neutral and not to a +1 is that I still believe the hobo role is passive and doesn't need additional firepower as I previously mentioned. I can't see a good reason for a hobo to be firing a full-auto weapon, but I'm not totally against it either. If people really like the idea then I don't want to ruin anyone's fun by any means but I'm not an advocate for it either.

  17. Neutral (changed from -1, see my other post for details)

I can’t see why a hobo would have a tec-9 or similar weapon, being as they can’t have a weapon larger than a pistol. The tec-9 is more of an SMG in my eyes, even if it’s stats aren’t as good as other SMG’s. They don’t really have a need for more firepower either seeing as they don’t have a base to defend, can’t raid, and are immune to being mugged, with self-defence being the main reason for owning a pistol. I think the hobo is generally a more passive class and seeing hobos firing off full-auto weapons just seems odd and out of place to me at least.

I’m glad to see you made an application after we spoke in game, and while I don’t know you well enough to give you a referral, you seem a really decent guy in the time that I’ve spent talking with you.

I like that you’ve put a lot of time into explaining quite a number of reasons that you would be a good fit for the team and how you’d be able to help, you’ve mentioned some good qualities about yourself with an emphasis on helping players and giving off good vibes which I feel is important to maintain a friendly and welcoming community for any new players who join the server. Plus you have experience staffing before which is great.

With that said, there’s a couple of points that I’d like to mention. You said you like trolling which is ok if it’s friendly and between you and a couple of mates, but just make sure it doesn’t spread into your interactions with others you don’t know well as you’ll be representing the staff team if your application was accepted. I know you have also mentioned you have a couple of bans in the past which were both quite a long time ago. The mass NLR is very common for new players so I understand that one, and the mass RDM is concerning but as it’s a year ago and you’ve built up a couple of hundred hours, I feel that may have been a learning curve and I’m hoping you’ve matured since then, especially with your experience staffing on other servers.

Overall I think you’ve got a reasonable application, and having spoken with you in game, you seem like a decent person, so I wish you the best of luck 🙂

I'm actually going to go against the grain on this one because I think it's actually a decent suggestion. Correct me if I'm wrong but there were some massive hardware updates to the server not so long ago which have allowed some of the awesome updates that we have seen recently (like the duel system, tax system, lottery animation, building in PD, etc) alongside reaching improved FPS, so in that sense it certainly seems feasible. As you say though, it would need to be a one-time purchase (like VIP) to avoid people trying to stack it to increase their prop-limit any further. I'm aware that the prop limit changes with population, as others have suggested you can build at low-pop / high-prop periods and your build will remain which is all well and good, but for the few that perhaps can only join during peak times, an additional 5 or 10 props does make a big difference and support the server through donations at the same time, which directly supports hardware upgrades. I like the idea 😃

I never had the pleasure of playing on CityRP bu I have heard a lot of good things about it from all of those who have and it would be awesome to see what it’s like.

My only concern is of course the server pop. If the DarkRP server was at a point where the pop was consistently high most of the time, then it would be worth giving it a shot for sure, but recently the DarkRP server pop has been low and I think CityRP would only serve to split the numbers again meaning both servers would be very low. I just wouldn’t want to see the DarkRP pop drop any further than it already has.

With that said, if DarkRP’s pop was good then I’d be absolutely all for it and I’d be happy to invest some of my time to help out where I can and generally have fun. I think the idea in general is really good but it’s just figuring out how to get to that position on where it would have a decent launch and continue to fly.

    Edit:

I just want to quickly add that I would imagine Garnet and Proggy would want to ensure the server would have some financial stability and wouldn’t suffer large losses if it were to launch as there will be a good period of time where the playerbase will need to develop. So perhaps it’s a good idea to show some support in that sense too. I’ll be happy to donate by purchasing at least 100 credits if it launches in support of this, to do my small part at least in order to give it every chance of success if it went ahead. If everyone did the same, it would give a big boost to the idea perhaps?
