New printer approach to prevent alt usage on the server

Hey guys,

 

I'm making this thread due to people using alts on the server for extra printers (which I think is fine), HOWEVER, these alts take up player spots on the server and may prevent other people from joining the server. These alts also make the prop limit go DOWN, which is annoying when building a base. With this being said, I think a printer system revamp could be good.

Currently each player can only buy TWO printers, which is a very small amount. This is the same for both regular users and VIPS. I don't have a perfect solution for getting rid of the usage of alts on the servers for extra printers, but I think that adding more printers for VIPs, or potentially new, and better printers for VIPs could be a solution.

Or maybe even a system where the longer you're on the server, you can buy more printers, (example: every 1h you can buy 1 extra printer) Although, for this to work you'd probably just have to disallow alts entirely on the server.

Maybe none of these ideas would be a good solution to the usage of alts on the server, but I think putting some thought into a new approach could be beneficial as there are an estimated 30+ alts on the server. I'm somewhat new to Garnet and this is the only server THAT I KNOW OF has alts on the server for extra printers (this could be entirely wrong I'm not entirely sure, but I've never heard of alts being used for this reason on any other server, but I haven't played DarkRP in around a year and a half)

I didnt read the whole post, but if we have a system as you said “getting on every hour, get 1more printer” this will surely encourage people making more alts, there is no way you can 100% prevent alts, this is internet, people could change his ip/handdrive id…etc

 

in my opinion, having some alt is not a bad idea, in fact it’s a good news for the server (ofc not like 70+alts), lets say if you are a new player of gmod, you dont know which server you wanna play, will you choose a server with less people count or a server with 100+ player? Alts do absorb more new players to join the server

also, i dont really think it will effect the player spots

I agree with you that this particular “solution” would most likely create more alts, but if you combined that with just disallowing alts outright, I think it could be good. I’m just throwing potential ideas out there, obviously I don’t have the perfect solution for this, i’m just mainly asking for there to be some thought put into the printers if the alts are something the higher ups / community are wanting to get rid of

Also I definitely see your viewpoint on how alts could benefit the server, but there are a LOT, it drives the prop limit down, clogs space, and almost makes it so that you HAVE to buy alts if you want to make as much money on the server even if you are a VIP. I have alts on the server, and I felt kind of forced because I see people with an abnormal amount of printers that they can’t get naturally, meanwhile I was stuck with my 2.

Obviously I don’t know how other people feel about alts on the server, but I did see a message in the chat box on the forums about someone not being able to get in to the server

people would still use alts no matter how many printers they can buy? lol , its drp people wanna have the most $$$. lets not give them more printers lol
