The main factor in support of this decision is that allowing members to log in with a display name can pose a security risk for your account, because display names are public information, giving malicious users/bad actors an avenue to attempt to gain access to your account more easily by knowing 1 of 2 login elements. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is available for any user in the "Account Settings" section, and it is always recommended to be a best practice for the best possible security. Users will always be able to log in with their email address, which will be the new primary method.
