GarnetGaming Garry's Mod Ban Stats

I'm a staff member on TTT, and I thought it'd be interesting to share something. I started this side-project last night and kind of ran away with it. I have downloaded all of the ban log data for all three active GarnetGaming Garry's Mod servers and was able to do some fun data manipulation and make some interesting finds. I stole this idea from @Luxembourg because I learned he was doing a smaller project like this for TTT bans, so I would like to credit him for that.

Please know that this is just for anyone who is curious. It is not meant as any sort of measure of performance for staff and should not be used as such.

The 7 metrics I have so far are as follows:

• 1) Player Number of Times Banned
• 2) Days with Most Bans
• 3) Days with Least Bans
• 4) Staff Number of Bans Issued
• 5) Individual Staff Member Days with Most Bans
• 6) Permanent Bans Issued
• 7) Players Banned by Garnet

To help with readability, I have only included the top few users in each category for most of these charts. However, I have the entire dataset available, if anyone is interested. 

All data used to arrive at these stats came straight from the ban lists found on GarnetGaming's website and is publicly available. No further or insider information was used to generate this. The tools used for this project were Python and Python pandas library for data extraction and manipulation, as well as Excel for generating the graphs. 

These stats are for all of 2020 for DarkRP and MRP. They only date back to July 2020 for TTT.

Even Dark RP's slowest days are 10 times as much as MRP's and TTT's. Pretty impressive.

With these data points available, now you can brag to your other staff friends that you have issued more bans and are therefore superior (but not really).

For Perm bans what was considered a perm ban? anything over a year? Also i have alot of fucking bans holy shit

This is only for d3a bans for TTT. It also does not include the over 300 bans you made one afternoon. I filtered those out to not bias results.

Gotcha gotcha, didn't think about that. That makes alot more sense. Insane work on the whole data statistics, pretty crazy.

If you look at the banlist https://garnetgaming.net/darkrp/bans/ 

Every permaban has specifically a duration of "19-03:14", so it was pretty easy to find these and filter them in python.

I'd say no more than 1 and a half hour to write a script to generate the datasets. Used a python loop to visit the webpages and everything was quick to return except for the TTT banlist for some reason. I also used a very useful python library called pandas which makes even that list you posted easy to generate. 

The part that took me the longest was making the graphs in excel, dragging them to folders and uploading them to imgur lol, about 2 hours alone.

The raw data is available on the Garnet Gaming website. For example, for MRP: https://garnetgaming.net/militaryrp/bans/

I downloaded and created a method for the analysis myself using python from this raw data.

These stats are some really interesting things you don’t think about, would’ve been cool to also see the SWRP numbers.
