Aidan mentioned that models were being reviewed and to feel out the combat to see if this change would still be needed. IMO it is, simply because you can only do so much with Garry’s Mod. Garnet has pumped hours/days into modeling but when you’re dealing with ping discrepancies from players around the globe (shout-out 23 lerp gang) and Garry’s Mod combat physics, it’s still limited. Description: I’m suggesting we change the damage multipliers of both arm and leg shots. Currently the damage is quartered, aka DMG x 0.25 when hitting a model below the waist or in the arms. This results in our favorite Orsis for 26’s and AEK for 10’s. I’m suggesting we raise the multipliers to 40% for legs and 85% for arm/shoulders. Should we penalize players for failing to hit heads or center-mass? Yes, it’s within the scope of RP. However, too often are players being punished for shots that should be hitting the body or penetrate to the body. Models aren’t perfect but that’s a product of GMod so to try and improve each and every one of them would be piling on an already full plate for Garnet. You can edit models until you literally OD on caffeine but the ceiling for realistic hit reg is low. Reasoning: This change will result in more fluid combat and decrease the amount of RNG in fights (see Additional Information). I used some math to choose percentages that I felt were appropriate. The higher caliber snipers, 125+ damage, will be able to still one shot prestiged players via arm/shoulder hits. 104/125= 0.84 < 0.85 ARs are geared to kill in 3 hits, with popular ones ranging from 32-40 damage with attachments included. 8-10 Damage from a bullet, no matter the location, seems absurd. Buffing that to a 12-14(leg)/27-34(arm) range seems reasonable. The damage isn’t negligible and the penalty for hitting non-vital areas is there. SMGs have regained their popularity with the recent server changes. The common ones falling between 23-28 damage with attachments. OLD: 6-7. NEW: 9-11(leg) / 20-24(arm). All i have to say here is look at the additional info. Additional Information: Plenty of you have probably seen this clip but it’s might be the most egregious yet. https://streamable.com/omv8eh Aidan checked logs and he hit 12 times for 7 damage. There is no reason you should hit someone 12 times with bullets and not kill them, except for maybe the 300 hp classes. He’s not giving Regret a fucking pedicure either. He pumped bullets into his chest and stomach. Closing Remark: I know a change like this would shake combat up quite a bit. We’d see automatic weapons being more effective and have quicker times to kill. Snipers would be less frustrated when they hit some twice and the enemy keeps walking with 40-50 hp. I feel this is something needed in order to improve upon the combat of the server. Also, I’m open to hearing different values as opposed to 40%/85% but include your reasoning. What if..... and now Cringe react me if I sound stupid..... What if the place you get shot, Inflicts penalties on you? For example, Leg shots would reduce your movespeed, Arm shots maybe Reload times? I'm not quite sure as to what a Body shot would do, But we could have a Headshot maybe reduce vision slightly? It's possible, however running all those calculations to determine body parts and constantly update the values would absolutely tank the server. 1 Link to comment

Vac_ 174 Posted April 29, 2020 Share Posted April 29, 2020 (edited) My god, snipers should not have to hit someone 4 times to kill, especially when there is blood on chest/head, since snipers are already one shot to body/head, it would not make them unbalanced to raise damage to at least a 3 shot (2 would be optimal but idk) A damage buff may be harder to do, so increasing the base damage could solve that At least test it out by releasing the damage buff for a few days - a week, and if we like it (which how it sounds, i’d love it) keep it, if not, we can find alternative ways to fix the issue . If there is a crouching PMC model their arms seem to cover their entire hitbox, taking 4 shots to kill them while he sprays me down. I had this video since 2018, its been an issue for YEARS at this point in time. It's only an issue if the arms are hit, if some douche wants to crouch jump to exploit this, then you report the fucker with recording. +1 to this, I've been against this ever since I had the tools to prove it with damage logs since 2018 Link to comment

Yes GMod models typically have 7 hit groups: Head, Left Arm, Right Arm, Chest, Stomach, Left Leg, and Right Leg. Currently, the 4 extremities do 0.25x damage, the chest & stomach do 1.00x damage, and the head does 2.00x damage.
