Bring back or update Day/Night cycle

@Nutter I enjoy the chess, but I feel like I speak for many of us (maybe not) when I say that I'd much rather have the map cycle between day and night than have chess, a casino, a vault in pd, new mayor commands, new tax scripts, etc. 

I don't mean to sound ungrateful (if I am coming across that way) and I understand that resources are limited, and that this is a somewhat complex request. Yet, a lot of people have voiced interest in this idea and perhaps it would be worthwhile looking into or asking people what they prefer?

I have spoken to a lot of fellow VIPs & donators who have expressed a desire for the night map implementation.

We had a night map in october and it was our worst populated month in recent years.

 

Switching maps for the sake of atmosphere is obviously disruptive to gameplay too. You wouldnt like it any more than you like a server crash or scheduled restart.

I'm glad you also noted that when we genuinely had a night map, our server was borderline dead at 30-40% our current population

If what you're saying is the truth, which is, people would prefer the literal color of the sky change on intervals as opposed to new, fun content, that players can utilize for hours/days to come, then I'm mind boggled.

Yes, i'm sure when it comes down to it, the majority rule would overwhelmingly say no night map if that means 2 additional restarts everyday.

At the end of the day, if the current population of the server is in favor of switching maps twice a day, or adding an arbitrary "hue change" to the skybox to make it black from blue, then this is unfortunately not the playerbase I wish to cater to or update the server for. I will however continue sticking around for those who are around for genuine, fun changes.

As a lifehack, adjust your monitor settings twice-daily to be super dark and take out 80% of the blue, it'd give you a day-night cycle.

That's some bullshit,

I'd much rather have actual content over having it be nighttime, if that's the cost for a ton of cool shit then so be it. Most people I've talked to could give less of a fuck if they see the moon and all they do is rave about cinema, and all the other fun shit garnets added. Idk who you talking to, but I guarantee you if you talk to anyone who's been around for years most of them are probably preferring having actual content they can use over the game looking a lil more pretty

How would switching maps on server reset impact gameplay or people with alts? Wouldn’t it have the same effect as a typical reset?

 I’m not recommending a change to the reset schedule. That was someone else’s post. My idea was to alternate between day and night maps on each reset, following the current schedule. I would also vote no on a night map if it meant additional restarts.

Arguably, the main components that fuel any DarkRP experience are imagination and atmosphere. I just think that the different vibe could help with that. 

I’m not pressed about it, but I’m honestly a bit surprised at the sarcastic replies as well as the aggressive tone/swearing in some of the comments disagreeing with my suggestion. I did my best to give a suggestion with a polite, calm, and even demeanor. Obviously not everyone is going to share the same opinion.
I’m not going to throw a fit if my suggestion isn’t implemented. I’m just doing my best to make a case for my idea.

Tbh the day night cycle that we had was kind of an eyesore, because the map just wasn't lit right. It was a cool addition but as you said, kind of a waste of resources.

But like choppa said, it would change every restart, so whenever you do your every odd day restart thingy to keep the server running good, you'd just switch the maps yk? 

As for when you did change the maps, I really only remember it being on the week of Halloween which arguably kind of makes sense why you wouldnt have the greatest pop. 

I'm still behind the suggestion that Choppa has made as I would love to see it implemented in, however I do understand the want for more pop and thats really the only downside I can see to switching the the map every 2 days. I don't know, or maybe just for celebration days (i.e christmas, halloween, easter, national garnet day ect)  try to find maps that are themed that way but with a night setting? idk i just really want to see this implemented.

Hell just try it for a month perhaps and see how it works out, if it's seriously affecting the server then remove it.


In the end, it is up to you Garnet so I'll leave the choice making to your finely crafted fingers.

right so gonna voice my opinion again, I enjoyed the dark because I enjoy the dark itself lol hence why my room irl is mostly just dark but overall if you ONLY spoke to vips and donators than uh ima need to dip from my +1. From the like 29 VIPs that we have thats what 29 out of the 110 players that we get daily what about the other 85. Also speaking chess/checkers is GENUINELY the most fun I have had on DRP since like 2019... its sad to say but just winning at chess against a person is amazing lol. The dark map was cool but imo IF we could get some more features that will make DRP a bit more fun like more things like chess maybe connect 4, I know its cringe but connect 4 on DRP... hype.

Connect 4 would genuinely be fun as heck, also if not adding the day/night cycle can bring more fun updates then I'm all for not adding it. Server should focus on more fun things to do rather then just some neat little visual.
